Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation

The American Montessori Society offers annual awards for graduate research that furthers the understanding of Montessori education. At the 2017 AMS Annual Meeting, Katie Brown was awarded Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation, Second Place, for her study “Evaluating the Effectiveness of Montessori Reading and Math Instruction for Third Grade African American Students in Urban Elementary Schools.” Dr. Brown is a graduate of the UNCC curriculum and instruction PhD program, class of 2016.
